Mis-Matched Socks

My grandmother was very old school when it came to appearances. How you look is a representation of me. "You look like no one takes care of you." Was a common phrase for the littlest thing she didn't like. Growing up, there were a couple of people I looked up to that wore mis-matched socks because of the style. I thought it was the coolest thing to mix patterns and colors. We can all relate to wanting to fit in with people older then you... it is a bit of a status symbol at that age. At some point, it became a natural habit of mine.. socks go missing all the time so why not wear what I have? Everytime my grandmother saw my feet she sighed in frustration and begged me to change my socks. I never really understood what the big deal was at the time. No one was seeing my feet in my shoes. Do they really care? It was my first intentional act of rebellion. Sometimes I would do it just for the reaction.
