Silly Bands
Silly Bands are an item that conjure a specific image in my head. The image never changes and it's one moment. One road, two lanes that lead to a draw bridge. Trees everywhere, a runner of grass in between the intersection of the main roads. A sign in the grass saying " Welcome To City Island." I went to a catholic elementary school on City Island. The bus rides were a lot of fun. The school was so small it felt like everybody knew everybody so there was never a dull moment. But anyway, on said bus rides we became little hagglers. "I'll trade you." Who wanted the pink Hello Kitty in place of the orange dinosaur. The girls I knew always wore their favorite ones on their right wrist and then the ones they weren't so precious about on their left. These things were just glorified rubber bands, but they had a hold on us. I remember taking them off and being left with an interesting pattern of red lines on my wrist from wearing them all day.
